It has been situated in the Company's historic Garden since 1897. The museum houses an extensive collection of over one-and-a-half million specimens, including important African zoology, palaeontology, and archaeology collections. The museum's exhibits range from fossils dating back almost 700 million years to ancient insects and historical tools. It aims to provide visitors with a better understanding of the earth's biological and cultural diversity, both past and present. The Iziko South African Museum is a vital cultural institution that continues to inspire and educate visitors about South Africa's rich heritage and natural history. For outdoor enthusiasts, stargazing from Signal Hill, wildlife encounters at Table Mountain National Park, and hiking trails on Table Mountain and Lion's Head are musts. Take a scenic boat cruise from Cape Town Harbour or try kayaking at Zandvlei Nature Reserve. Thrill-seekers can add a skydive at Skydive Cape Town or 4x4 sand cruising on Cape Town Dunes. Heading into the Northern Cape, visit the famous Namaqua National Museum located in Springbok, Northern Cape, is housed in the town's former synagogue, built in 1929. The park was established to conserve the rich diversity of succulent plants found in the Succulent Karoo biome, which is a biodiversity hotspot with the largest concentration of succulent plants in the world. The park's history dates back to 1988 when the World Wide Fund for Nature (WWF) purchased a section of Skilpad Farm to manage it as a wildflower reserve. In 1999, the park was officially opened, and it has since expanded to include more succulent habitats and an important coastal section. The park now covers over 141,000 hectares and offers visitors the chance to witness the spectacular spring bloom of wildflowers. The cultural history of the region includes evidence of early human inhabitants, such as the San people, and later European settlers who engaged in stock farming and mining Kgalagadi Transfrontier.
